TRAVEL BY BOAT TO THE AGE OF DISCOVERIESTOUR TO BELEM + BOAT TRIP + ELEVATORS & TRAM 24H | 25€ | THURSDAY TO MONDAY
PRAÇA DO COMÉRCIO, LISBOA | 11:00 AM / 10:30 AM ** | LOOK FOR THE BLUE UMBRELLA | MINIMUM GROUP 4 PEOPLE
During 1 hour, we will be able to enjoy the views of Lisbon from the water and, most interestingly, of the Belém district, where you will have an interesting and different perspective, compared to land, of the great monuments of Lisbon that were built facing the sea.
In addition, we will pass under the 25 de Abril Bridge, which will allow us to observe from below the structure of the longest suspension bridge in Europe. We will continue our tour and approach Christ the King, who will welcome us with open arms on the other side of the river.
As we make our way along the Tagus we will enjoy the sights offered by the Lisbon Museum of Architecture, Art and Technology, located on the banks of the river in the former Central Tejo steam factory. As we approach Belém, we will discover monuments such as the Padrao dos Descobrimentos, a 52-metre high monolith in the shape of a caravel on which we can see 33 statues representing the Age of Discoveries. And the photographed Belém Tower, a former military construction declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1983.
We will disembark next to the Belem Palace, residence of the President of the Republic. After the introductory details of the neighbourhood, we will arrive at the famous Belém pastry shop, where they serve the famous original cream cakes. We will take a tour of the surrounding area, passing by the Jerónimos Monastery, one of the most famous monuments in Lisbon, and entering its church. We will be able to visit the interior every day except Mondays, when it is closed.
We will cross the Empire Square to reach the famous Wind Rose and understand all about the travels of the Portuguese between the 15th – 16th century. We will talk about the Portuguese colonies of the Great Empire and all the characters who participated to achieve it.
After 2h 15’walking around the neighbourhood, we will finish the tour outside the famous Belém Tower.
